About us

Welcome to Andrew Thompson & Co

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply not yourself, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Based in Alderley Edge and also available online, we offer a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly, feel truly heard, and start to make sense of what’s going on for you.

Counselling is a chance to reconnect with yourself. To explore what you’re feeling, what you need, and what matters most to you. We’re here to walk alongside you in that process, with care and understanding, every step of the way.

Frequently asked customer questions

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely natural to have questions. Below are answers to some of the most common queries. If there's anything else you're wondering about, feel free to get in touch — I'm happy to help.

Each session lasts 50 minutes and typically takes place once a week, although this can be adjusted depending on your needs and availability.

Yes. I offer online therapy via a secure video platform, as well as in-person sessions in Alderley Edge. You’re welcome to choose the format that feels most comfortable and accessible for you.

Absolutely. I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation, so we can explore what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.

I support clients with a range of issues including:

  • Grief and bereavement
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Low mood and depression
  • Self-esteem and identity
  • Relationship or family difficulties
  • Life transitions or feeling ‘stuck’

If you’re unsure whether I can help with something specific, you’re welcome to reach out — and if I’m not the right person, I may be able to refer you on.

50 minute counselling sessions cost £50. I offer a limited number of concessionary spaces for students, low-income clients, or those experiencing financial hardship. Please feel free to ask about this.

I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charged in full.

Yes. Everything you share in therapy is treated with the utmost confidentiality. I work in line with the BACP Ethical Framework, which means I only break confidentiality in rare circumstances — for example, if there’s a serious risk of harm. We’ll go over this in more detail during your first session.

The number of sessions varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people come for a short period to work through a specific issue, while others find longer-term support more helpful. We’ll check in regularly to review how things are going.

At the start of our work together, we’ll go through a counselling contract. This is a formal agreement — not a legal document, but a clear, mutual understanding of how we’ll work together.
